Position Summary

NILC is seeking an Associate Director of Digital Communications to oversee NILC’s digital communications operation including managing our portfolio of websites, our digital staff, and our digital assets and campaigns. This mid-level management position will also serve as a liaison to NILC program and operations staff to ensure integrated digital communications are helping to drive our strategic framework and organizational priorities. This person will serve on the Communications Department’s management team and will report to the Director of Communications.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the digital staff including overseeing work product, ensuring a consistent voice and tone, and coaching/mentoring staff for their own growth and development
  • Develop and support the implementation of digital strategies that advance our work including calls to action, campaigns, and email engagement and growth strategies
  • Serve as strategic digital advisor to partner organizations or coalition members as part of our campaigns and movement partnerships
  • Maintain the integrity of NILC’s portfolio of websites and lead the redesign of our main

and websites * Engage regularly with program staff to ensure integration and work plan execution

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures that create an efficient, high performing communications operation
  • Create goals for growth of our email/supporter lists, social media followers, and engagement rates and implement strategies to achieve those goals
  • Draft quarterly strategic narrative report to inform our Board and internal stakeholders about progress in our digital activities and provide analysis and reporting of all digital metrics
  • Seek continuous improvement in our digital efforts and take a proactive approach to staying ahead of emerging digital trends and technologies, and identifying new areas where NILC should have a presence
  • Collaborate with the department’s management team to ensure the digital work is in alignment with our media and messaging strategies and develop ways to integrate the functions so that each is leveraging the other for enhanced visibility and success

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but will consider substituting years of experience for education


  • A minimum of 7-9 years of digital communications experience
  • At minimum of 2 years of experience managing teams
  • Deep familiarity with the principles of digital best practices
  • Familiarity with various CRM and CMS systems
  • Experience with writing about immigration or social justice issues
  • Proven experience in exercising judgement in breaking news and rapid response environments
  • Significant experience in digital media production including video, GIFs, infographics, and graphics and other multi-media collateral
  • Experience with all social media and digital platforms
  • Experience with web content strategies and managing web redesign projects


  • Familiarity with various CMS and CRM systems (Teams, Drupal, WordPress, etc.)
  • Social Media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook)

Salary for the role is commensurate with experience, and will be between $84,200 and $105,300.
